Rangers beef up Wolf Pack with signing of Di Giuseppe
The Rangers have announced they signed forward Phil Di Giuseppe to a one year deal, valued at $700,000. The 25 year old, 6′ and 200 lbs left winger began last season in the Carolina Hurricanes organization before getting claimed by the Nashville Predators mid season.
This is a depth signing for the Rangers as Phil Di Giuseppe has experience in the NHL and AHL. In recent seasons, the forward has evenly split games in Charlotte and Raleigh. He has potential to become a 13th forward for New York. If he ends up in Hartford, he will be a solid addition considering the experience under his belt which is a plus to nurture prospects.
Where he will end up next season will be determined in training camp. In either situation, he benefits the organization and enhance competition for spots. On the Hartford aspect, the signing means a reduced spot for a forward and pushes someone to start in Maine. The competition in New York and Hartford will be tough for anyone.
Phil Di Giuseppe has good assets which can carry him, but he still has learning to do. The forward has natural scoring ability, but lacks consistency. If he lands in Hartford, a great coaching staff in place will allow the forward to blossom and potentially earn a call to New York.
