Rangers Bolted By Lightning; Blueshirts Fall 5-3
Here is our recap of the Rangers 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Under Siege – The Rangers were doomed from the opening puck drop in this one and gave up a goal, that would be disallowed, just 22 seconds in. The Lightning scored their first “legitimate” goal of the game a little over two minutes later, setting the scene for a long night down in the Sunshine State. Turnovers once again did the Rangers in, with the Lightning scoring their opening two tallies on Rangers giveaways. Henrik Lundqvist faced 31 shots before being mercifully pulled by bumbling idiot Alain Vigneault in the second period. Oh, and 21 of those shots came in the first period! The Rangers goaltenders have been forced to literally and figuratively save this team time and time again this season, in spite of the horrid defending in front of them.
Too Little Too Late – The Rangers did manage to put three pucks behind Vezina candidate Andrei Vasilevskiy, though it was to no avail in getting the Rangers back into the game. Ryan Spooner scored his second with the Rangers, putting in the rebound on Kevin Hayes’ shot to make it 3-1.

After the Lightning tacked on their fourth and fifth goals of the game, the Rangers made a brief push in the third period. Mats Zuccarello took a pass from Ryan Spooner, who picked up the loose puck and fed the Norwegian winger for his 11th of the season.

Kevin Hayes made it a two-goal game late in the third, deflecting a point shot from Rob O’Gara, who recorded his first NHL point on the play.
