Rangers Complete Comeback In Win Over Bruins
Following Tuesday night’s loss to the Kings, which saw the Rangers blow a two goal lead in the third period, it was the Rangers that were able to spoil the Bruins’ night as the Blueshirts scored two in the third before ultimately winning the game in the shootout.
Mika Zibanejad – The Rangers center has been their hottest player as of late, having recorded points on 10 of the last 11 Blueshirts tallies. And he’d factor in on the first Rangers goal as he one-timed the pass from Mats Zuccarello past Jaroslav Halak.
Zibanejad is playing some of the best hockey of his young career, as the forward has already set career-highs in assists and points this season. Zibanejad will be the team’s 1C for the foreseeable future, and that means he will be one of the core guys that the Rangers will center their rebuild around.
Kevin Hayes – Though it seems like he is on his way out of New York, Kevin Hayes has not let the swirling rumors have an effect on his performance. With the Blueshirts trailing 3-1 in the third, Hayes gave his team some life cutting the deficit to 3-2 as he followed up the play and deposited the loose puck into the Bruins net. Hayes has four points in his last four contests as he continues to produce for the Rangers since returning from injury.
Filip Chytil – It’s been a little bit of an up-and-down season for the 19-year-old rookie, but tonight was definitely one of the “up” nights as Chytil’s power-play goal sent the game to extra time. Chytil parked himself at the side of the net and pounced on the rebound of Pavel Buchnevich’s point shot to tie the game at three.
The rookie has come alive as of late, recording points in six of his last eleven games. And as NHL.com writer Dan Rosen points out, Chytil is having a solid rookie year. For the Rangers’ neophyte, taking the positives out of every game will be key in his development, and doing the little things like going to the net for rebounds will help him continue to grow as a player.
Alexandar Georgiev – The Belarusian goaltender had himself a solid outing for the Blueshirts as he stopped 27 of 30 Bruins shots, including this OT save, to give the Rangers the chance to eventually win the game. Georgiev registered his seventh win of the season, and he will need to continue to be a steadying force between the pipes for the Blueshirts.
Tony DeAngelo – The oft-scratched defenseman sent the MSG crowd home happy as he deposited the shootout winner behind Jaroslav Halak in the seventh round of the shootout.
Next Game: The Rangers host their 25th anniversary of the 1994 Stanley Cup championship team on Friday night before facing the Hurricanes at MSG. Puck drops at 8!
LETS GO RANGERS!!
