Rangers Defenseman Out 2-4 Weeks
Moments ago, the Rangers announced that defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will miss the next few weeks after sustaining a shoulder injury against the Lightning.
It’s been a bit of a rough time for the New Rochelle native, having missed the majority of last season after undergoing knee surgery back in January. When the Rangers signed Shattenkirk prior to last season, the hope was that the defenseman would provide some offensive firepower from the back-end. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case for number 22, as he has posted 31 points (6G, 25A) in 75 games for the Blueshirts.Â
With Shattenkirk being sidelined for the next handful of weeks, it will be interesting to see how David Quinn utilizes his defensemen. Tony DeAngelo will presumably take Shattenkirk’s spot in the lineup, which also means that Brendan Smith should get some regular playing time. Adam McQuaid is close to returning from his injury, and he will be eager to get back on the ice as soon as he can.
