Rangers Drop Home Finale to Blue Jackets 3-2, thank fans
A well played game on both ends but the Blueshirts fell short in a shootout and dropped their home finale to the Columbus Blue Jackets, 3-2.
Artemi Panarin stole the show for Columbus as he scored a highlight reel goal in the 3rd as well as the game winning tally in the shootout. Alexandar Georgiev was stellar in net for New York making 39 saves, keeping the Rangers afloat. Chris Kreider notched a goal as well as Pavel Buchnevich, who tied the game late in the 3rd with a bank shot from the left wing that crept in past Bobrovsky.
Before the game, the Rangers recalled Ryan Lindgren from Hartford. Lindgren slotted in the lineup, alongside Connor Brickley. Nieves, Claesson and Gilmour were scratches, Filip Chytil is out with a shoulder injury. The overall effort of the team was lackluster at first but began to pick it up as the game went on.
The team play was solid all around. It is painfully clear that this roster needs a game breaker, as everyone played reasonably well in their own zones and the offensive zone. Pavel Buchnevich is making his case to stick on the first line as he skated and moved with such confidence and swagger, that he’s slowly proving to those that doubted him, he can be the player we expected.
After the game, the Rangers did their annual “Blueshirts Off Our Backs” ceremony. Overall, outside of the result, a good night in Rangers town, taking a team who was playoff bound, to the brink.
Rangers close out the 18-19 season tonight, as they play the Penguins in Pittsburgh. LETS GO RANGERS.
