Rangers expected to assign players to Wolf Pack ahead of NHL Trade Deadline
The New York Rangers are certainly focused on the Florida Panthers, as they get set to host them on Monday night. Of course, they also need to prepare for the NHL Trade Deadline later this week. At the same time, they need to think about their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack as well.
Per the AHL’s website:
After tonight’s game against the Panthers, the Rangers will be off until Saturday, when they face the St. Louis Blues at Madison Square Garden. That’s a full day after the deadline on Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
The New York Rangers are expected to assign several players this week to the Wolf Pack roster, even if they are just paper transactions (meaning the players will remain with the big club).
Three notable youngsters are very likely to be assigned to Hartford due to the fact they are waivers exempt and the Rangers are at no risk to lose them. They are as follows:
- Will Cuylle
- Adam Edstrom
- Matt Rempe

Cuylle, 22, has registered 10 goals and 8 assists for 18 points in 61 games this season for the Blueshirts to date. The rookie leads the entire team with 201 hits to this point and has been a force on the third-line all year.

Edstrom, 23, is another massive forward that has impressed the organization with his speed and intelligent play. To date, he’s scored two goals in 10 games and is +3.
These moves allow the Rangers the ability to send them down if trades are made and they need roster space at the NHL level.
