Rangers Flop Again, Fall To Coyotes 5-0

When it rains, it pours; and in the case of the Rangers, it’s pouring loss after loss after loss as New York drooped their third straight on Sunday. Henrik Lundqvist was pulled for the second time in three games, while the team was massively outshot and outplayed for the majority of the match.

Rinse, Cycle, Repeat: For the third game in a row, the Rangers laid an egg on the ice and allowed the opposing team to walk all over them. Before the fanfare, center Kevin Hayes was out for his second straight game with an upper body injury. Lackluster defensive play along with non-existent offensive pressure with general aloofness to boot, the Rangers are a dead team skating. The Rangers were outshot 40-23, and although they didn’t take as many penalties as they did the other night in Colorado, they still let up a power play goal to Conor Garland, who scored twice in the contest for Arizona. Darcy Kuemper stood tall and stopped all 23 shots the Rangers tossed his way. Overall, the team did not look good, and from the naked eye, seems as if they are phoning it in at the slightest bit of adversity.

This is expected of a team that is rebuilding it’s core roster. The team has no identity and that is clearly evident on the ice. From the top down, this is a team that is currently looking for something to call itself. One good thing that comes from this is that management is aware of the problems currently arising, including coach David Quinn.

“We’ve just got to get off to better starts,’’ coach David Quinn said. “We’re fragile mentally and physically right now, the way things are going. You lose three games like that, there’s a whole heap of problems right now, and we’ve got to address them.

“We had no legs today. We were clearly the slower team — they had more jump than we did. And it wasn’t just a certain group of guys; it looked like it was every man. We just didn’t have any energy. And you can’t play with no energy in this league.’’

Nobody wants to see their team lose, especially like this. No one wants to actively root against their team, but if there’s a silver lining to all of this, it’s the possibility of this:

Next Game: The Rangers will try and snap their losing streak Tuesday night in Vegas against the Golden Knights. Puck drops at 10.
