Alexandar Georgiev has not been very good this season. He has epitomized much of the Rangers this season with his “sporadic” good play. Georgiev’s first start was a shutout over the Islanders but it was an auspicious beginning. He also had some other big wins like the shootout in Philadelphia, but his play of late is abysmal and his confidence looks shot.

Alexandar Georgiev: Numbers don’t lie

Here’s a quick snapshot of the Rangers goaltending this season:

  • Igor Shesterkin: 6-7-1, 2.31 GAA, .921 SV%
  • Alexandar Georgiev: 4-4-2, 3.33 GAA, .887 SV%
  • Keith Kinkaid: 1-1-1, 2.32 GAA, .905 SV%

The Rangers desperately need Georgiev to regain his form and more importantly his confidence. David Quinn upon announcing the he was going back to Alex tomorrow explained that this is a confidence issue more than anything else.

“It’s more the mental piece for him,” the coach explained. “[Benoit Allaire] been working with him obviously. Georgie’s been mentally tough since he’s been here and we’re expecting him to come out of it.”

COVID and Injury Update

Adam Fox, Pavel Buchnevich, and Phil Di Giuseppe are still on COVID protocol but are considered day-to-day. They did not practice but could be available tomorrow based on testings results.

As for Igor Shesterkin, he skated prior to practice and is working his way back. Quinn states he is still day-to-day.
