Vitali Kravtsov is the most eagerly anticipated 1st round draft pick for the Rangers since Alexei Kovalev in 1991. At the time of his selection, many fans and experts were surprised he was taken over Oliver Wahlstrom but Kravtsov silenced those critics almost immediately with brilliant play on the international scene.

Gorton Breaks News on MSG

While there was rampant speculation just a couple of weeks ago that Kravtsov was going to be signed after his KHL team was eliminated, that never came to be. Last night on MSG, Jeff Gorton was asked about his prized 1st rounder and gave this insight.

“Kravtsov had a really good year in the KHL for a young player to just about lead his team in scoring. The World Junior, to be so effective, they moved him to center and he did a good job there. We’re excited to get him over here as soon as we can. We know his contract ends, we’ll be talking to him soon and see if we can get that job done.”

Based off of that information, we know the Rangers will be looking to talk and get him over here after Kravtsov’s contract expires with Traktor in the KHL on April 30th.
