Rangers going for 10th straight win in Tampa while Boyle contemplates retiring
The Rangers are ready to rock and roll in Tampa Bay tonight with a little revenge on their minds. After losing a heartbreaking series against the Lightning in the Eastern Conference Final, the Blueshirts will seek some payback with another 2 points in the standings.
Former Rangers captain, Ryan Callahan is unlikely to play tonight due to a lower body injury. Of course, knowing Callahan he will find a way into the lineup. Whether he does or doesn’t, the Rangers are still likely to grab the win as they are the hottest team in hockey with points in 13 straight games.
Dan Boyle may call it quits after this season
There comes a point in every player’s career where they have to consider retiring. Sadly, for some they physically are unable to go anymore. In the case of Dan Boyle, just like Marty St. Louis it’s about being with his family.
Boyle told Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record that, “For some guys, it’s physical. For me, physically, I feel fine. It’s mentally, having kids and being away.” He did also state that “nothing is for sure”, but if a player of his ilk is saying this out loud, it’s likely.
This also indicates to me the Rangers have already spoken to him about his expiring contract and that they will not be bringing him back next season. Top reason for that is an up and coming star defenseman by the name of Brady Skjei.
If Boyle plays one more season, it may be in his hometown of Ottawa just so he can be closer to his family.
