Rangers Roundup: Jacob Trouba featured on GMA, plus Brennan Othmann scores again
New York Rangers captain, Jacob Trouba was featured on Good Morning America not for anything he’s done on the ice, but for the love he and his wife share off of it.
When Trouba was named the 28th captain in franchise history, a question about his wife brought tears to his eyes and garnered the attention of GMA.
“It caught me off guard for sure,” he said. “She was there (at the announcement) and I wouldn’t be here without her.”
As the Rangers season opener approaches on October 11, Jacob and his wife Kelly discussed their relationship.

“It was the day before Halloween and I was dressed up as Superman and she was Superwoman,” Jacob recalled about how they met in college. “So we took a picture. That’s how I got her phone number.”
Trouba, 28, registered 39 points in 81 games last season for the Rangers and added 5 points in 20 playoff contests. His 177 shot blocks were tops on the team and his 207 hits led all Blueshirts defensemen.
His commitment on the ice to his teammates only takes a backseat to his wonderful wife. That’s why it wasn’t surprising when Trouba became emotional at his press conference discussing her sacrifices and hard work as a doctor.
“I was one of those kids that knew I wanted to be a doctor,” Kelly said. “I love medicine.”
Brennan Othmann on fire for Flint
New York Rangers top prospect Brennan Othmann is on fire in the early going of the OHL season for the Flint Firebirds.
On Friday night, he scored a goal and added two assists in Flint’s 5-3 win over the Guelph Storm. Othmann’s tally came 1:36 into the second period off a nice pass from Amadeus Lombardi for a breakaway. Flint’s leading scorer from last season (97 points) went backhand 5-hole on Jacob Oster.
So far this season, Othmann has 4 goals, three assists, and 7 points in 3 games. He’s tied for first in OHL scoring in both goals and points.
Flint will play tonight at home against the Sudbury Wolves.
