Rangers lose in Vancouver
Following Monday night’s loss in Edmonton, the Rangers continued their Western Canada tour with a contest against the Vancouver Canucks. Unlike their previous contest, the Rangers would lose this one in regulation, and could possibly have lost one or two of their players to suspensions in the process.
Pavel Buchnevich – The lone bright spot for the Rangers in this one was the power play goal from the young Russian. With the Rangers trailing 3-0 late in the third, Buchnevich took the Mika Zibanejad pass and beat Jacob Markstrom to give the Rangers some hope as the third period went on.
Chris Kreider – It may not have been intentional, but Chris Kreider will likely be hearing from the NHL after this game. While stopping and spinning, Kreider’s arm swung around and caught Elias Pettersson in the face, drawing blood and sending the Canucks player to the locker room for an extended period of time.
Former Ranger Dan Carcillo summed up the play correctly, in my view, saying that while the play was likely unintentional, there was some carelessness on Kreider’s part. If I had to guess, Kreider will get a one-game suspension for what happened in this one.
Brendan Lemieux – Unlike Kreider’s penalty and ejection, Brendan Lemieux got tossed for bracing for contact. As Canucks forward Antoine Roussel was cutting to the net, he tripped and fell forward into the elbow of the Rangers forward. It didn’t appear that Lemieux could do anything to get out of the way, and had he not braced himself for the impact, Roussel could’ve taken out the legs of Lemieux. This was a bad one for the NHL and the referees.
Next Game: The Rangers are back in action Friday night against the Calgary Flames. Puck drops at 9!
