Rangers Mauled by Bruins in 6-1 Loss
Here is our recap of the Rangers 6-1 loss to the Boston Bruins.
Good First Period –Â The game started out good for the Rangers. The Blueshirts were energetic and had good chemistry for the first time in a while. Rick Nash even elevated his trade value by scoring the opening goal to get the Rangers on the board. Unfortunately, this is the only time the Rangers would lead as it was their first and last goal of the night. The play was sloppier in the second period, and then apparently, they stopped playing hockey in the third.

Defensive Woes – This has been a constant issue for the Blueshirts since the start of the season. The sad thing is there is no one player to blame, it’s a cohesive issue across the board. Lindy Ruff was brought in to help with the defense and so far, the results speak for themselves and not in a good way. The coverage tends to be lackluster, and it can’t be blamed on the absence of Staal or Shattenkirk, as this has been a season-long issue.
Alain Vigneault – I doubt that the coach is on his way out anytime soon, but it’s very clear that he has lost the room, or lost sight of what’s really happening on the ice if the below comment is of any indication. We’re probably stuck with him through the end of the season, but it’s very clear that his system is not working and a change is needed.
“I think tonight there’s no doubt that our guys were prepared to play and we knew what we had to do. We came out and we were doing it.” – Alain Vigneault
Henrik Lundqvist – I don’t even know where to start with this one, except that he deserves so much better. While he did let in a bad goal, the defensive coverage, or more accurately the lack thereof, is mostly to blame. Night after night Lundqvist stands on his head to keep his team in games, but he’s supposed to be the last line of defense, not the only line of defense. He’s been hung out to dry just too many times this season and it doesn’t look like there’s any end in sight and judging by his response, he knows it.

Other Notes – The Rangers have now lost seven out of their last eight games and have only won three games in regulation in their last twenty. The record is abysmal, to say the least. There have been rumblings about Nash and/or McDonagh being traded, but nothing concrete to go on just yet.
Next Game: The Rangers are back at it on Friday when they take on Calgary. Here’s hoping they finally get out of that five-game losing slump and pick up a win.
Puck drops at 7!
LETS GO RANGERS!!
