Rangers power play woes turn 2-0 lead to 3-2 OT loss
Thanks has been given and it became time to get back on the ice, as the Rangers and Bruins faced off in Boston for the nationally televised Thanksgiving Showdown on NBC. New York is coming off a strong win versus the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday at MSG, while Boston has not yet to lose at home in regulation. All throughout the afternoon, the Rangers played a solid 5v5 game against a formidable and proven Boston Bruins squad but due to lack of execution on the man advantage and a missed icing call, the Bruins stormed back and took the game 3-2 in Overtime. Here’s our recap.
Fil and Bread Show Feat. Buch: Game in and game out, you can always tell where Artemi Panarin is, as he’s always noticeable on the ice, no matter the situation. Panarin notched another point today as he assisted on Filip Chytil’s goal in the second period. Panarin now has 33 points in 24 games, which puts him on pace for a possible 113 points for the season, a performance that could echo Jaromir Jagr’s 2005-06 season where he tallied 123 points. Pavel Buchnevich and the previously mentioned Filip Chytil also had strong games today, both scoring goals and being driving forces for their respective lines.
Powerless Play: The difference between this being a Rangers OTL instead of a W is the tally, or lack thereof, the Rangers had on the man advantage. Even though the Rangers were strong 5v5, the Rangers went 0 for 6 with the man advantage, blowing a huge 5 on 3 chance and a four minute double minor. Both units were either overwhelmed by the Bruins defense or were indecisive when set up in the zone to take a shot. If one had entered the net on the man advantage, the score may have been different.
Henrik Being Henrik: Henrik Lundqvist was stellar as usual as he made 24 saves on 27 shots that included a few on a couple of Boston flurries that could’ve gone the other way. As usual, he kept the Rangers in the game when needed and was huge on helping New York get a point.
Next Game: The Rangers are right back in action tomorrow as they face the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center at 1PM on MSG.
