Rangers Reaction: What Lamoriello’s moves today could mean for Tavares’ future
Lou Lamoriello has relieved both Garth Snow and Doug Weight of their respective duties as GM and head coach. The moves have sparked a firestorm on social media as to what those implications could mean for John Tavares
Firings Mean JT will likely stay
Some writers feel this is a good sign for the Islanders.
To me, the #NYI moves today mean Tavares is staying. You don’t make a big move like this without his OK.

People can go on and on about Tavares and his friendship and loyalty with Weight and Snow, but this was about much more than him. This franchise and fanbase has been pining for a day like today. It was 23 years long overdue. #Isles

Tavares is a goner?
One Toronto radio personality had this interesting insight:
That’s that for Tavares w/ the Isles. Have heard from far too many connected people that the only way JT was staying was a reaffirmed commitment to Weight as head coach. Isles will attempt to trade his rights before July 1.

Either way you look at it, simply firing the GM and coach aren’t going to be enough for JT to forego free agency. He needs a top dollar offer for 8 years, a coach with a winning track record on board, and a clear plan to bring in a top level goal scorer for his wing.
Bottom line, if he doesn’t get all this soon he will go to the open market giving the Rangers a legit shot at getting him.
