Filip Chytil has seen the ice at MSG this season as he made the team out of camp. The 18-year-old Czech native played two games in October with the Blueshirts but wasn’t able to contribute offensively before being relegated to Hartford. Chytil has played for both Hartford and the Czech national team this year, where he has combined for 35 points in 52 games (11G, 20A in 45 GP with HWP; 2G, 2A in 7GP at WJC). At 6’2″ and 202 lbs., Chytil will look to bring his size, speed, and skill to help this rebuilding Rangers roster.

As for his Swedish counterpart, the 19-year-old Lias Andersson spent the majority of the year playing for Swedish Elite League club Frolunda, which counts Henrik Lundqvist as one of its alumni. Andersson had 14 points over 22 games in his native land (7G, 7A), before heading to the World Junior Championships to represent his country. And boy did he ever show the world what he can do. Andersson recorded seven points in seven tournament games (6G, 1A), with the only blemish of the competition the earning, and subsequent tossing, of the silver medal. After the tournament, Andersson remained in North America to rehab an injury suffered at the WJC, which was followed by his joining Chytil and the Wolf Pack. In 24 games, Andersson had 14 points (5G, 9A) for the Rangers AHL club, including this “greasy goal” for his first in North America. Andersson plays much like fellow countryman Jesper Fast, in that he never gives up on a play, and has no problem going to the dirty areas to score goals and win games.

With Chytil and Andersson both up with the Rangers for the remainder of the season, this is their big opportunity to show the Rangers and their fans why they were taken in the first round of last year’s NHL draft.
