On Tuesday, the New York Rangers sent down promising prospect Brennan Othmman after a brief stint with the big club. As injured forward Kaapo Kakko is still not ready for contact, the team recalled Jake Leschyshyn for another run on Broadway.

The 24 year-old is coming off an injury that sidelined him with the Hartford Wolf Pack for several weeks. In 14 games to date, he’s recorded three goals and three assists for six points, which includes a two-goal performance in a 5-3 win over the Hershey Bears this past Saturday.

“There’s going to a process for [Kakko] when he does get cleared,” coach Peter Laviolette said. “When he does get into games, there might be a ramp up period. We’ll see how many practices he gets. He looked good today and I thought he was moving well.”

Last season, Leschyshyn was claimed off waivers from the Vegas Golden Knights, and proceeded to appear in 13 games for the Rangers. He failed to register a point in those matches, and finished with a -3 rating while averaging 8:21 of ice time.

For his NHL career, the young center has appeared in 76 contests, with two goals and four assists. In the AHL, he’s amassed 32 goals and 35 assists for 67 points over the course of 169 games.

The Rangers will likely utilize him on the fourth-line for their upcoming match against the Blues in St. Louis on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Jacob Trouba did not practice, and was listed as day to day for personal reasons. If he’s unable to travel with the team, Zac Jones would get another opportunity on defense.
