Rangers Roundtable: JD explains why the team didn’t choose a captain
Last night the Rangers held their Town Hall with the fans at the Hulu Theater and JD addressed why they didn’t opt to select a captain this season.
On The Captaincy
JD said it’s about the right player at the right time. He did say that there was a concern it could be an unnecessary burden. He doesn’t want to give someone the C and then have to take it away if it’s too much of a weight on their shoulders. JD did say that they discussed it heavily.
Immediately after JD said this, Ryan McDonagh came to mind. It was clear to many people that McDonagh’s game took a bit of a hit bearing the burden of wearing the C on his chest. I think the Rangers have that very fresh in their minds and are waiting at least one more year before deciding.
