Rangers Roundup: Braden Schneider named captain, Nils Lundkvist not looking ahead, and more
As the buzz in Rangerstown is on the latest Jack Eichel trade rumors, there’s a few quick notes fans should be aware of. We start with a prospect out in Western Canada.
Brandon Wheat Kings name Braden Schneider captain
The Rangers traded up this past draft to select defenseman, Braden Schneider. So far the move looks like a wise one as he continues to impress at every level.
Schenieder played a big role for Team Canada’s Silver Medal run at the World Juniors. He picked up an assist in two games with the Wolf Pack before heading to his WHL team, the Brandon Wheat Kings. He’s now their 64th captain in franchise history.
“Braden was a part of our leadership group last year and he’s a big part of our hockey club”, says Wheat Kings Head Coach, Don MacGillivray. “He’s coming back for his fourth year and is a respected leader on the ice and in our dressing room. He’s a player who has always done everything he’s asked and he was the obvious choice to lead our group this season. He’s a great person to show our players how to play in the Western Hockey League and how to be a Wheat King.”

Nils Lundkvist focused on Lulea, not the Rangers – yet
Yesterday, we published another great interview with Rangers prospect Nils Lundkvist. The defenseman is currently looking to win a Championship in Sweden with Lulea.
“I keep in touch with Rangers’ player development and I let my agent handle everything else,” Lundkvist told us. “My main focus right now is to play as well as possible for Luleå Hockey in the SHL. Our goal here is to go far in the playoffs and hopefully win the title together.”
