The Rangers and Islanders face off tonight in what feels like forever since they last played. The big news coming from David Quinn is that both Pavel Buchnevich (flu) and Marc Staal (UBI) are game time decisions.

  • 2019-20: This is the first of four meetings between the Rangers and Islanders, and the first of two meetings between the two teams at MSG. Following tomorrow’s game, the Rangers and Islanders will face each other on the following dates: Jan. 16 (at Long Island), Jan. 21(at MSG), Feb. 25 (at Long Island). The Blueshirts play three of their four games against the Islanders in a nine-day span, and those three games are in a span of four contests for the team. The last time the Rangers faced one team three times in a span of four team games was in 2005-06 (the Blueshirts faced the Islanders on Oct. 19, 2005, Oct. 20, 2005, and Oct. 27, 2005 – the only game against a different opponent during the stretch was against Buffalo on Oct. 22, 2005).
  • The Blueshirts’ last game against the Islanders in 2018-19 was on Jan. 12, 2019.
  • Ryan Strome played parts of four seasons with the Islanders (2013-14 – 2016-17) and was selected by the Islanders in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
