Rangers Roundup: Free Agency preview and a fan pens a letter in Russian to Panarin

Tomorrow the bell will ring for the opening of the Free Agency period. While all focus is on the prized free agent of the summer, Artemi Panarin we can still expect Jeff Gorton to make some other moves as well.

Last night I gave my latest update on Panarin and it still stands this morning. Here’s what I think we need to look out for, more than any tweets from insiders speculation… a buyout.

Today is the last day for the Rangers to exercise that option, so start paying attention around noon today if they put a player on waivers for the purpose of a buyout. That’s your key transaction.

Veterans for Hartford

Other Options

If the Rangers miss out on Panarin, they most likely will look at the secondary market and try and nail down a center. I noted two names to keep your eye out for awhile back.

So I’m seeing more and more linking the #NYR to UFA center Joe Pavelski. Apparently mentioned also on The Hockey News podcast. First off, he will be 35 next month. He doesn’t fit what they’re doing. If you’re looking at possible UFA C’s try Johansson or Dzingel.
