Rangers Roundup: Glencross talk again, NYR 2015-16 outlook and more…
As the long summer continues, we round up some of the NYR oriented stories around the web. Let’s begin with the Curtis Glencross chatter.
Would the Rangers add Glencross?
Allan Muir speculates that Curtis Glencross could be willing to lower his contract demands to sign with a contender.
[su_quote cite=”SI” url=”https://www.si.com/nhl/2015/08/07/off-the-draw-matt-cullen-penguins-blue-jackets-blackhawks-brad-boyes-christian-ehrhoff?xid=nl_siextra”]…the 32-year-old wing still brings speed, tenacity and a bit of touch. If a contender like the Rangers doesn’t snap him up for depth now, it’s a good bet he’ll land with a non-playoff team that might look to flip him at the deadline for a draft pick. But there aren’t many of those opportunities either, so Glencross could be at the point of lowering his sights.[/su_quote]
Listen, if the Rangers can add him for under 925K so that way they could bury his entire cap hit in Hartford if it doesn’t work out…I’m all for it.
NYR Fantasy/Reality Hockey Predictions
We’re a few months away from hockey season, but fantasy magazine and websites have already started prognosticating for the upcoming season. Here’s what’s out there.
Dobber Fantasy Hockey: The Division has five really good teams, and Philadelphia can score. Of the five really good teams, the Penguins are the only one without potential breakout candidates ready to enter their prime…The Rangers have Chris Kreider and Kevin Hayes…The New York Rangers are still three lines deep offensively…The answer to the question, for me, is I’m not quite as intrigued by Braden Holtby, Sergei Bobrovsky, Cory Schneider, and especially Marc-Andre Fleury. Henrik Lundqvist is still a top-five lock, though.
Pool Pro (via SNYRANGERS):  TVA in Montreal has put together their fantasy hockey guide for the 2015-16 season and looks at whether some of the Rangers are progressing, stable where they are or regressing. (Pool Pro)Â
Player | Â Status | Goals | Assists | Points |
Brassard | Stable | 21 | 39 | 60 |
Nash | Regressing | 34 | 25 | 59 |
Zuccarello | Stable | 20 | 35 | 55 |
Stepan | Regressing | 14 | 39 | 53 |
Kreider | Stable | 22 | 29 | 51 |
Yandle | Stable | 7 | 42 | 49 |
Hayes | Stable | 15 | 27 | 42 |
McDonagh | Stable | 9 | 31 | 40 |
Miller | Progressing | 11 | 25 | 34 |
I agree with Dobber but TVA’s stat predictions are way too low and off. Especially stating that Derek Stepan is regressing. At 25? This will be a career year for Stepan…mark that one down.
Rick Nash Will Finally Win Over His Critics in 2015-2016
Sean Hartnett of CBS writes that this is the year for Rick Nash.
[su_quote cite=”Sean Hartnett” url=”https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/08/07/rick-nash-new-york-rangers-sean-hartnett/”]Nash only trailed Ovechkin and Stamkos in regular season goals. His regular season advanced statistics are proof of his ability as a possession-dominant forward. He led all NHL skaters in individual 5-on-5 Fenwick per 60 minutes at 16.97 and only trailed Ovechkin in individual 5-on-5 Corsi per 60 minutes at 21.98. With playoff experiences gained, 2015-16 could be the season that Nash finally fulfills his true potential and wins over the segment of skeptical Rangers fans.[/su_quote]
While I don’t disagree with this…unless the Rangers win the Cup, he will never win over his critics in NY.
