Rangers Roundup: Grandpa Slats, elimination, and offseason plans
Latest on the New York Rangers.
Speculating on Rangers offseason plans
ESPN looked at the Rangers and speculated on their plans this summer. While they conclude that Artemi Panarin is a target, they need to be wary of going the “quick fix” route.
Any sensible fan should agree wholeheartedly with that approach but the words “sensible” and “fan” don’t always walk hand and hand. Of course, Jeff Gorton has displayed a high level of control and stayed the course on the rebuild.
Last night, the GM appeared on MSG Network before the game and delivered some insights. Gorton stressed that they are eager to get Kravtsov over, he likes the direction they are going in, and that at the draft they will be selecting the best player available and not focus on positional needs.
As far as free agency goes, the Rangers are in on Panarin, and there’s been rumors of interest in Erik Karlsson, Matt Duchene, and Jeff Skinner.
Elimination
The Rangers won last night but were officially eliminated from playoff contention. This was always a matter of when and not if, and when came last night.
Grandpa Slats
Glen Sather was spotted at the game last night and sporting the coolest grandpa look ever.
