Rangers Roundup: Latest NHL rumor rumblings
The latest NHL rumors and if it impacts the Rangers.
Leafs Ain’t Worrying
When it comes to offer sheeting one of the Leafs two biggest RFA’s in Auston Matthews or Mitch Marner, the Leafs aren’t concerned.
While it is true the Leafs could have as much as 27 million dollars to “defend” against offer sheets, if Matthews were to get that 12-15M offer and Marner maybe 7-9M then Dubas will be pretty handcuffed to fill out the remaining roster with quality players.
Kyle Dubas also made it a point to note that Toronto isn’t the only team with high profile RFA’s. He cited Winnipeg’s Patrick Laine, Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen, and Tampa’s Brayden Point just to name a few.
“I’ll believe it when I see it,” is what TSN’s Bob McKenzie said recently on any team making an offer sheet. Still, this is a rare group of elite RFA’s and it is quite possible at least one team out there may decide to do it. I truly hope the Rangers try to use this incredible market to their advantage.
Tarasenko dominates trade talk in STL
When it comes to Blues being traded, Tarasenko is easily the most talked about player. Elliotte Friedman was recently on a Calgary radio show to discuss Tarasenko and believes the Carolina Hurricanes may be the lead dog to land him.
“So what are you getting? You’re getting a guy who can score, but a guy who is a bit flawed. And a team like Carolina, which I think has waited, they’re dying for goals. I could see it.” – Friedman
Are these players on the move soon?
The NHL roster freeze is coming tomorrow and ends on December 27th. Lyle Richardson breaks down 6 players he believes could be moved before then. Names like Wayne Simmonds and Jake Muzzin top the list.
