Rangers Roundup: Latest on Quinn hiring and status of UFA, John Tavares
It’s been a wild news cycle surrounding David Quinn and the New York Rangers. Here’s the latest.
Blueshirt Persistent
According to the NY Times, the Rangers were very persistent in in their pursuit of David Quinn. According to sources speaking under the condition of anonymity, “Quinn, 51, and the Rangers came to an agreement in principle in the last several days after weeks of back-and-forth talks in which the coach had turned down at least one offer from the team”.
5 years, 12 million
Source told me that the rumored five-year, $12 million deal for David Quinn isn’t finalized. Could be a formality, as Rangers GM Jeff Gorton returns from Denmark. But a reminder that this isn’t a concrete thing quite yet. Expected, but not concrete. #NHL https://t.co/T4HhnHuviv

John Tavares News
The NYPOST wrote a piece on the likelihood of Tavares going all the way up to the 11th hour before deciding to re-sign or hit the market. According to Brett Crygalis:
“The deal is likely going to be in the range of $10 million-$12 million per year — which also goes a lot further in a tax-free state like Florida where Tavares’ good buddy Steven Stamkos took what seemed like a discounted deal in the exact same situation last summer just hours before becoming a free agent.
By now, Tavares and his high-powered agent Pat Brisson have a good idea of who the main suitors will be, but there is no reason to make a hasty decision — which raises the anxiety level with each turn of the calendar.”
Editor’s Note: Stamkos re-signed with TB 2 summers ago.
