Rangers Roundup: Leafs wanted Gorton and Is Stepan really going to arbitration?
It’s been slow news week for the Blueshirts but the one story that looms largest is the pending arbitration showdown set for tomorrow between the Derek Stepan and Jeff Gorton.
Reports state that the Rangers have offered 5.2M and Stepan is looking for 7.5M leaving a pretty large gap between the 2 sides.
Not sure if out yet, but NYR offer to Stepan is $5.2M. Stepan ask is $7.25M

Can the Rangers avert a hearing with a chasm of about $2M??? My belief is yes and it will likely happen at the 11th hour ala P.K. Subban last season. The expected settlement should be between 6-7M for 5-7 years.
WANTED: JEFF GORTON
We all knew in the back of our minds why Glen Sather didn’t permit Assistant GM, Jeff Gorton to speak with clubs during the playoffs. Slats was looking to step back and promote Gorton. It became official when Gorton was named the new GM on July 1st.
Now we learn that Lou Lamoriello wasn’t Toronto’s first choice. Per Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun:
[su_quote cite=”Toronto Sun” url=”https://www.torontosun.com/2015/07/25/it-will-take-all-of-the-leafs-front-offices-work-ethic-to-succeed”]Shanahan’s first choice to be GM of the Leafs was Jeff Gorton, who has since been named GM of the Rangers. Strange the way stuff works out: The Leafs were also prepared to name Guy Boucher as coach had Babcock gone to Buffalo. I understand the interest in Gorton. Still don’t understand the fascination with Boucher[/su_quote]
FullTilt Rangers News
I want to apologize for the lack of article and features this summer. This summer my wife and I decided to update/remodel our home. It has been a draining experience and extremely time consuming. Personally, I have also needed to put more focus on my career and continue my education to further advance myself.
However, I am still committed into turning this into one of the best New York Rangers blogs out there. By trying to attract new young and talented writers, I hope to bring various opinions to appeal to a wider audience. The goal is to become a reliable source of Rangers news from a fan’s point of view.
Who knows where it will all go from there? So far, it’s gone far better than I ever imagined in just over 2 years. Thank you all again for your loyalty and readership.
