Rangers Roundup: Panarin reactions, keeping Kreider, and more
Latest buzz around the New York Rangers.
Reactions to Panarin Signing
Artemi Panarin ultimately chose the Rangers when the opening bell rang on July 1. I will have a bit of an inside scoop coming up on this later, but here’s some reactions to the Bread-man in NY.
Keeping Kreider
There’s no doubt that the Blueshirts would be a much better team with Kreider, especially after gettin Panarin. However, the salary cap may simply not allow it.
Currently, the Rangers just have about a little over 8M in cap space, and have to sign Trouba, Buchnevich, DeAngelo, Lemieux and Kakko (ELC). They are going to need another 7M to get this all done. That means a trade of Vlad Namestnikov’s 4M and also a buyout of Brendan Smith which can get you close to keeping Kreider.
As a final note on the topic, Kreider makes almost 5M and will be a UFA next summer. He is also the most asked about player in terms of trade. While the Rangers may want to keep him, Boston, Colorado or Detroit may make an offer Gorton can’t refuse.
Zuccarello Gets Paid
Mats Zuccarello finally got the years and money he deserved from the Minnesota Wild. On a Rangers note, that means the Rangers will now receive Dallas’ 3rd round pick in 2020 instead of their 1st if he re-signed.
