Rangers Roundup: Prospect Berard gets scare then gets even, Dylan Garand solid at WJC, and more

The New York Rangers have five players at the World Junior Championships. One of their more prominent and promising prospects had a scary moment in Team USA’s warm up game against Finland.

In the opening frame, Brett Berard tried to avoid a hit and in doing so suffered a knee-on-knee collision with Ruben Rafkin. The speedy forward went airborne and hobbled off the ice unable to put weight on his left leg.

Berard comes back an scores

The prospect returned for the second period and did break a 1-1 tie with a pretty goal showing no ill effects from the hit. While the U.S. lost in OT 4-3, Berard’s return was the best news for the squads gold hopes.

Berard was selected in the 5th round pick (134 overall) at the 2020 Draft. He may be small at 5-9 but plays a big and agitating game with speed.

This season, Berard has 24 points in 21 games with Providence College.

Team Canada won their tune up match against Russia with freshly inked goalie Dylan Garand stopping 14 of 15 shots in his half of work.

Yesterday, the Rangers announced they signed him to his ELC.

The 2020 fourth round pick (103rd overall) is in his fifth season with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League. He’s amassed a record of 15-4-0 with a 1.85 GAA and a .932 SV%. Garand’s numbers are at the top of the WHL as he’s tied for most wins and his GAA is second best in the league.

“I was at home watching the draft on my TV with my mom and my dad and we waited there watching until i got picked,” Garand told up back in August. “It was a great feeling being drafted by the New York Rangers.”
