So Much For Trading Lee Stempniak?
Moving to Russia next season, and will be playing for Torpedo, Nizhny Novgorod. Will be a great adventure!
— Carl Klingberg (@CarlKlingberg) June 21, 2015
The Rangers moved pending UFA, Lee Stempniak to Winnipeg for 24 year old Carl Klingberg near last season’s deadline. Klingberg is a big Swedish kid (6’3″, 205lbs) and has 1 goal in 12 NHL games. My preference would’ve been to have him in Hartford, but the KHL is still a pro league and should not hamper his development.
The Issue with Cam Talbot’s Trade Value
[su_quote cite=”Ellliotte Friedman” url=”https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-trade-talk-beginning-to-heat-up/”]As for Cam Talbot, the toughest thing preventing the Rangers from getting the best possible price for him is that he’s on a one-year contract with free agency beckoning. Under CBA rules, he cannot be extended until Jan. 1, 2016. If teams knew they could do it in July, you could get permission to talk to him and have an idea of what you’re looking at. That’s not possible. He’s still good value. But this gives the acquiring team less control.[/su_quote]
Friedman makes a great point, but for the GM’s looking to acquire a potential #1 goalies for the next 5-7 years, the risk is worth the reward.
