Rangers Rumor Roundup: More Stepan to Minnesota talk and Gorton going for Shattenkirk
The NHL draft is tomorrow and one has to wonder, when will the Rangers start making some of those BIG MOVES that have been rumored since they were eliminated by Pittsburgh in April?
Stepan’s Name Appears in Minnesota Paper
Michael Russo of the Star Tribune writes:
The Edmonton Oilers need blue-liners, and anybody from centers Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov to wingers Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle could be had for the right price. Some feel the same could be said for Florida’s Nick Bjugstad and the Rangers’ Derek Stepan.
The Wild also theoretically could be willing to part with forwards. Mikael Granlund and Nino Niederreiter are a year from restricted free agency, meaning the Wild has to decide soon whether it wants to commit to them long-term. Jason Zucker is a restricted free agent.
I don’t see a Stepan to Minnesota deal, unless the Rangers obtain both Granlund and Matt Dumba.

Rangers “hot” for Shattenkirk
NYDN’s Pat Leonard wrote this yesterday:
St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, who is drawing interest from several teams as the Blues deliberate dealing or extending the New Rochelle native, would be a perfect fit in New York.
Personally I think the Oilers or the Bruins are the lead candidates to land Shattenkirk, but I’m glad to hear the Rangers are trying for him. However, I stated yesterday how even the beat writers are confused with what the Rangers are going to do, Larry Brooks said they weren’t going after him.
Your guess is as good as mine.
Mats Zuccarello Does Not Win Masterson Trophy
Here’s what I posted on Twitter and it sums it up fine.
Hi. I nearly died from a vulcanized bullet to the brain. But sure, give the Masterson to a guy for being old. pic.twitter.com/jnp2rw19Vi
