Rangers Ryan Lindgren out; Gallant doesn’t think it’s serious
New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren is out of action for the team’s game against the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday. Head coach Gerard Gallant also added that he didn’t think the injury was serious.
Igor Shesterkin was also confirmed at the starter for today’s contest. For his career against the Kings, he’s 3-0-0 with a 1.96 GAA, and a .949 save percentage.
In addition, the Rangers recalled Ryan Carpenter to play on the fourth-line and loaned Jake Leschyshyn to the Hartford Wolf Pack. The move saves the Rangers a few bucks ($16,667) as they continue to accrue cap space for the eventual trade involving Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks expected this week.
The trade deadline is March 3.
Ryan Lindgren out
Ryan Lindgren was injured on a questionable hit by T.J. Oshie in Saturday’s 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals during the first period.
On the play, Oshie hit him almost from behind dangerously close to the boards. Lindgren came up favoring his left shoulder in great pain and headed straight for the locker room.
“Dirty hit. [Lindgren] had no chance to protect himself,” Gerard Gallant said. “I’m disappointed it wasn’t a five-minute major. For me it’s a cheap hit and I like that hockey player.”
Lindgren, 25, has 17 points in 56 games this season and would be a huge loss. A stint on LTIR is a minimum of 10 games and 24 days.
