RANGERS SLIP ON OIL AND IN TO PITT
Two lapses is all it took. An errant pass by Kevin Klein off Brian Boyle’s skate and 10 seconds of being out hustled with less than 2 minutes led to a 2-1 loss. The Oilers may have been a little more attentive in the defensive zone last night, but there were rebounds aplenty. Scrivens did his best fish out of water goaltending and stymied the Rangers for the second time this season.
The Rangers out shot the Oilers last night 36 to 31 but Ben Scrivens was there for the initial shot while rebounds were swept away. Alain Vigneault was not pleased with the effort and was upset on the game winning goal. “The winning goal was five guys on the ice getting beat to loose pucks” said a seething Vigneault. Nail Yakupov converted and that’s all she wrote.
New York has one more game before the Olympic break against the division leading Penguins. Tonight, the King will assume his position in net after Cam Talbot gave him a much needed rest. The best player for Team Sweden will face the best player for Team Canada, Sidney Crosby. While the Olympic undertone is nice, the two points will be the only focus for the Rangers.
FULLTILT FORECAST: NYR 4 – PIT 2! Rick Nash and Derek Stepan will lead the way and Hank will get it done.
