Are the Rangers still going to make moves? Elliotte Friedman addresses on NHL Network
Elliotte Friedman who broke the Rangers signing Brandon Pirri yesterday, was on NHL Network last night. When asked about the Blueshirts, here is what he said as per our J. Dundon.
There’s certainly not a lot of meat on this bone, but with the Rangers now having a ton of forwards, it isn’t a big leap to think that a deal is on the way.
Is A Deal Coming Soon?
While some beat writers like Brett Crygalis of the NYPost, and Rick Carpiniello of the Journal don’t think a deal is imminent, it doesn’t mean GM, Jeff Gorton isn’t remaining active.
Matter of fact, Gorton has probably been one of the most active GM’s this summer with a trade and a handful of free agent signings. Rumors still persist that Gorton is looking for takers on Rick Nash, but there has been no change since the draft in what teams are willing to give up for the former 40 goal scorer.
Bottom line is this, with all the moves Gorton has made this summer, he has yet to address the Rangers’ biggest issue from last season – defense. The blue-line has lost its biggest offensive weapon in Keith Yandle and have no true PP QB. As much as I feel Ryan McDonagh is a future Norris trophy candidate, QBing a PP is not his forte.
September and the opening of training camp are coming…will Gorton make another move by then? You’re guess is as good as mine. What we do know I s he’s trying.
