Why Are The Rangers Targeting Chicago Blackhawks’ Kevin Hayes

Per Larry Brooks, the Rangers are closely watching the negotiations of Kevin Hayes with the Chicago Blackhawks. The 22-year-old from Boston College is a Blackhawks’ 1st round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft. If the two sides can’t come to a deal he will be available to all on August 16th.
So why are the Rangers interested? First off he is a former line mate of current Ranger, Chris Kreider. Being 6’3″ with gifted hands doesn’t hurt either.

Hayes was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award (NCAA MVP), posting 27 goals and 65 points for BC. According to Larry Brooks, he is eligible/required to sign a two-year Entry Level deal regardless of whether he signs with Chicago or becomes a free agent. Brooks also feels that Hayes would have a shot to make the Rangers as a third or 4th liner.
Our thoughts are simple; size, speed and hands don’t grow on trees. Should Kreider’s former line mate become available, the Rangers need to grab him. Don’t think so? Check out this goal about 1 minute into the video.

Like we said, no-brainer.
