Nieves has spent most of his time with Hartford, putting up 44 points (16G, 28A) in 88 games in the AHL. Boo played 28 games with the Rangers last season and registered nine points (G, 8A) in a checking line role.
For me, Nieves should be in consideration to make the opening night roster. With Lias Andersson, Filip Chytil, and Brett Howden all vying for spots at center, Nieves is the only one with comparatively significant time in the NHL. Nieves can also play on the wing which would give David Quinn some flexibility in his bottom-six, as well as being solid in his own zone and on the penalty kill.
