Rumor: Rangers and Flyers both actively looking for a forward
This probably flew under the radar of many in NY. Sunday’s Ottawa Sun revealed what many have been speculating for the last few weeks.
[su_quote cite=”Ottawa Sun” url=”https://www.ottawasun.com/2016/01/24/bolts-yzerman-working-to-offload-drouin”]It’s likely not going to happen before the deadline but you have to expect at some point Rangers’ GM Jeff Gorton will try to bring in another top six forward. The word is he’s been calling around to see what’s available and the Flyers’ GM Ron Hextall is looking as well [/su_quote]
The Rangers are listed as one of the 12 teams pursuing TB outcast prospect, Jonathan Drouin. With the latest demand of an equal prospect in return, I have to believe the Rangers are out of it.
Besides the fact that there is no guarantee the move will propel the Rangers any closer to their ultimate goal this year – winning the Stanley Cup.
One place you have to suspect the Rangers are looking at is in Columbus. It’s also probably the same place Philadelphia is checking in on. Here’s what TSN’s Bob McKenzie recently said.
[su_quote cite=”Today’s Slapshot” url=”https://www.todaysslapshot.com/from-the-ice/mckenzie-blue-jackets-likely-to-be-very-active-on-trade-front/”]I think they’re all ears on just about anything. They’re likely to be very active, if not by the deadline – but I would certainly think by the deadline – and well into the off-season.[/su_quote]
So I wrote just a few weeks back…is Scott Hartnell the shot in the arm the Rangers need? Bottom line, we know for certain the Rangers will be looking to add a forward to their top two lines by the February 29th NHL Trade Deadline.
