Ryan Malone, Rangers Agree on Deal
The Rangers and free agent forward Ryan Malone have signed a 1 year 2-way contract worth $700,000. With this deal, the Rangers are currently over the 50 contract limit, now having 51. Also, they currently sit over the cap room, and that doesn’t take into consideration the contracts of JT Miller, the newly signed Kevin Hayes and Oscar Lindberg.
Malone, 34, signed the deal after participating with fellow Rangers in this week’s informal skate before training camp begins late next week. Malone, as we remember was bought out of his contract at the end of this season by the Tampa Bay Lightning after he was suspended by the team for an incident back in April for a DUI, and possession arrest for cocaine.
As Anthony pointed out earlier this week, there is a a lot of risk signing the 34 year old veteran. Besides the demons he’s got with his cocaine bust, this potentially takes a spot from a youngster who is fighting to make the big club.
It’ll be interesting to see who gets removed from the Ranger roster, as training camp is just around the corner.
