Sens’ Lehner goes for Sabres #21 pick, Chiarelli says he will not trade #16 for a goalie

The first domino in the goalie trade market has fallen and unlike what the insiders were saying, it wasn’t Cam Talbot. Buffalo has moved their 2nd first round pick (21) for Ottawa’s Robin Lehner and David Legwand.

Buffalo gets a 23 year old goalie who has time left on his contract and will be an RFA when it expires. Lehrer’s career 2.88 GAA, .914 SV% in 86 games pales in comparison to Talbot’s 2.00 GAA and .931 SV% in just 29 fewer games. David Legwand is a 34 year old glorified 4th liner that makes 3.5M so there could be some salary retention by Ottawa. (NOTE: Bob McKenzie reports Buffalo takes all Legwand’s salary too)

What does this do for Talbot’s value? Well Edmonton’s Peter Chiarelli said this morning that no one has asked about the #16 pick as of yet. However, he also stated he wouldn’t move it for Talbot.

That could mean they may very well miss out on Talbot as Calgary has reentered discussion for him.

This could go down soon as NYR are in meeting this AM per Darren Dreger.

Now let’s see how this plays out.
