Systems coming online: Optimus Klein took slap shots today

Optimus Klein is getting stronger everyday (getty)

Kevin Klein who has been out due to a broken forearm since March 11th is inching closer to a return. “I saw him out there slapping pucks which is the first time I have seen him do that,” head coach Alain Vigneault told the media today.

Per SNYRangers, AV also said “I would say that he is close to having a full practice with the team but I am not sure if at this time of the year we have a lot of full practices so maybe you consider a morning skate as a full practice.”

This is great news and could mean a possible return in this series. The question then becomes, who will sit? Many fans and some that cover the team feel it should be Dan Boyle who had a rough first couple of games with turnovers.

Considering the Rangers brought him in for his offense and they’re current struggle in that department, don’t count on it. When Kevin Klein is ready to return, Matt Hunwick will once again see the press box.

“I just got to get used to it and get my strength back,” Klein said after Monday’s practice session. The Rangers leading goal scorer from the blue-line with 9 (Dan Boyle also has 9), admitted that he might have pushed it to hard earlier in his recovery. That might be some of the reasoning for the initial timetable of 4 weeks being missed.

The good news is that one of the Rangers best defenseman is on the road to recovery. If all systems check out, Optimus Klein will soon be patrolling the ice for the Blueshirts.
