Tim Gettinger brings hulking size to the Rangers lineup

Gettinger (Newsday)

When the Rangers opted to send Lias Andersson to Hartford, instead of recalling another center in Boo Nieves (who is waivers eligible), they chose hulk sized winger Tim Gettinger. So what can fans expect from him.

Tim Gettinger was a fifth round pick (141) in the 2016 draft, and has played very well for the Hartford Wolf Pack. Before coming to the Rangers he served as the captain of Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL. The left-handed left winger, stands at a towering  6’6 and weighs in at 216 pounds, according to Eliteprospects.com

A Big Body Presence

Gettinger is a big boy with a lot of length when you put a hockey stick in his hands. Another strong suit of his, would be unusual speed for a big man. He uses both his size and speed to beat the defenders to the outside. Last season for Hartford he scored 12 goals and 23 points in 53 games. Gettinger has 4 goals and 6 points in 17 games this season.

The 20 year old forward has been improving every season, and should help on the 4th line in the defensive zone. He should be playing with Greg McKegg as his center and Brendan Smith on the opposite wing.

Scouting Report

“Gettinger is a goal scorer, with a heavy wrist shot, and an excellent release. He has the instincts to find openings in the defence in order to get off that wrist shot, or a powerful one-timer. He also has decent puck handling ability and uses his body as a shield to protect the puck in the cycle game.” says Ben Kerr of Lastwordonsports.com. This report came from 2016, the year of his draft selection.

Expectations

He should play a physical game and impress with his speed, especially at that size. Gettinger will also play big in front of the net and give the Rangers more net front presence.
