Will a former Rangers coach be singing the Blues soon?

Alain Vigneault is one of the more successful coaches in NHL coaching history. His record behind the bench is 648-435-35 during the regular season and has him tied for 10th in all time wins. Still, after being fired last season and with several coaching vacancies open he remains out of work. That could soon be changing.

Itching to get back

The Edmonton Oilers just fired their coach and decided that Ken Hitchcock’s defense first approach is what their team needed. Some were surprised that AV didn’t get a hard look there but a more likely situation is still possible in St. Louis.

While some may think that AV is just fine collecting a fat check from the Rangers, he really wants to get back to coaching. Daren Millard even tweeted out that the former bench boss was pretty upset he didn’t get a serious offer over the summer, especially in Dallas with their coaching vacancy.

A Homecoming?

The St. Louis Blues are struggling and relieved Mike Yeo last week and replaced him with Craig Berube on an interim basis. Could the former Blues defenseman be coming back to where his NHL career started?

St. Louis has the right mix for a coach like AV. Offensively talented players both upfront and on the blue line. More veterans than rookies also is right up his alley. So why hasn’t he been called yet? What I can gather it is very possible that the Blues GM, Doug Armstrong may be getting the axe next. Now whether that domino falls or not, AV still remains likely the best fit for the Blues.
