Zuccarello skates with the extras at practice, another step in the concussion protocol
Mats Zuccarello has laced them up once again and started practicing with the extras.
This is tremendous news on his road to recovery. Yesterday we discussed how traveling with the team was a big step and how that fit in the NHL’s concussion protocol. This just advances the progression table one more step.

The NHL SCAT 2 also helps determine when a player can get back on the ice. Recommendations state a player needs to gradually resume activity as follows:
- Complete rest until symptom-free
- Light aerobic exercise
- Sport-specific exercise
- Non-contact drills
- Full-contact drills after medical clearance
- Return to competition
By looking at this, Zuccarello now appears to be at stage 4 as he makes his way back to the lineup.Â
Zuccarello still on the ice. Positive sign but hasnt had full practice since April 24
