The ice was open in OT and the Rangers took advantage. Mats Zuccarello drew three Blackhawks to him and hit Derick Brassard in stride. Brassard raised his stick and blew one by Corey Crawford shortside for a big road win.

What should be lost was the stellar play of Cam Talbot who notched his 5th shutout of the season. This should leave no doubt in anyone’s mind that Cam Talbot will be seriously considered as a #1 netminder going forward.

This was the first shutout of the Blackhawks in Chicago since the days of Eddie Giacomin (1/25/69). “That says a lot about how we played tonight,” Talbot said. “Coming into a tough building against one of the best teams and really doing a good job in our zone.” Impressive and an impression that will sit in the minds of GM’s this summer.

As for the offensive hero, Brassard had this to say, “there was no way I could score on the glove side so I just tried to go short side and it worked.” Brassard who was jubilant because it felt like he “hadn’t scored in decades” understood what the Blueshirts accomplished.”I’m just happy we came here and won the game. We know they’re a power team in the West.”

Now the Rangers will get set to face the Islanders in the final game ever at the Nassau Coliseum this Tuesday.
