Camtastic Performance Lifts Rangers Over Hawks
Cam Talbot brought his A+ game and the NY Rangers return from the Olympic break with a 2-1 triumph over the Blackhawks. Talbot finished the game with 31 saves, the game’s 1st star and the Broadway Hat. In our pre game report, we felt that if the Rangers were to win, Cam had to be the player of the game. We guess that was a good call.
SLOW START
The game had a feeling out process not only for the teams but the fans in the stands. Some chances went back and forth but nothing to raise you out of your seat. Midway through the first Derick Brassard continued his hot streak (4g, 5a last 7 games) when he beat Corey Crawford. The assists went to his line mates Pouliot and recent call up JT Miller, both had strong games.
THE BIG EASY
Down 1-0, the Blackhawks brought the heat. NY mustered only 2 shots in the third, but Rick Nash cashed in on a wicked wrister with almost 4 minutes left in the period. That was the insurance goal NY needed as Cam stopped 12 of the 13 shots fired his way.
MOVING ON UP
With the win the Rangers widened the gap to 3 points in the Metropolitan division. The Flyers were bounced by the Sharks last night 7-3. NY can extend that lead to 5 points if they can grab a win in Philly on Saturday where Lundqvist will man the pipes.
As for the roster come Saturday? No change in the Callahan situation but Dan Girardi provided some encouraging news when he said “We’ll be working here in the next few days hopefully and try to bang something out here, but in the meantime I’ll just be all business and go about my job.”
