Rangers Set to Battle Oilers in Edmonton
Rangers backup goalie Cam Talbot gets the call tonight as the Rangers head into Edmonton looking to get back on the winning track. This is the second meeting of the season between the Rangers and Oilers. The first meeting was February 6th, before the Olympic break, which Edmonton won 2-1 at MSG.
The Rangers couldn’t solve Ben Scrivens on that day, as he stopped 34 of 35 shots in the Oilers win. NY will have to get to him tonight in Edmonton if they want to pick up an important two points.
The Blueshirts may enter the game with a bit of a new look as Alain Vigneault has tinkered with the lines. Dan Carcillo practiced with Stepan and Nash, St. Louis is back with Hagelin and Richards, Brassard is reunited with Zuccarello and Pouliot, but the dynamic and consistent 4th line will stay the same. For tonight, J.T. Miller is the odd man out.
New York knows they need a better defensive effort than they showed in Calgary. The Flames had too many high quality chances and capitalized. The Rangers were getting scoring chances themselves, but were not able to figure out the Flames four-man rush up the ice. The power play did have a chance to tie the game late, but looked lost.
If they hope to win, the Rangers must be better in their own zone against a young, talented Oilers team. They will have a chance to stay one point up on Philadelphia, or push it back to three with Philadelphia battling Boston this afternoon. Either way, the Rangers need points to cushion their grip on a playoff spot.
FullTilt Forecast: 4-1 Rangers win. The Rangers’ top players will come to play.
