Marty St. Louis’ two goal game brings Rangers within 2 points of 1st (NYR 4 v CBJ 3 S0)
So much for slumps! Marty St. Louis has reasserted himself as an offensive key to the big blue scoring machine that is killing Papa John’s profit margins. After going 15 games without a goal, MSL has 4 in his last 4.
RANGERS 4 VS. BLUE JACKETS 3 (SO)
Of course, not all is perfect in Rangertown as they blew a three goal lead at home. Whether it be bad defensive zone coverage like on the first goal by Marko Dano (puck was also on edge) or the incredible second and third effort by Artem Anisimov, the Rangers have to find ways to win.
Even after they tied it in the third off a puck that had eyes by David Savard, the Rangers got it done.
[su_quote cite=”ESPN” url=”https://scores.espn.go.com/nhl/recap?gameId=400564399″]”We talk all the time about trying to find ways,” St. Louis said of the Rangers, 3-5 in shootouts. “Obviously, up three goals, it’s not the way you are trying to get two points. We should have pulled away and closed it out.”[/su_quote]
Another Ranger that deserves high praise is Kevin Hayes. As the season has progressed so has he. He scored his 11th last night off a wicked wrister in the slot. Nine of his 26 points have come in the month of February. Biggest difference? He’s shooting more. 22 of his 72 shots have come in his last 11 games. He had 50 in his previous 44 games.
Didn’t Wayne Gretzky say “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”? He absolutely did and he knows a thing or two about scoring.
The Rangers are now, 2 points out 1st in the Metro Division with 3 games in hand on the Islanders. Knowing that the Rangers have a blockbuster move coming after the deadline should put the league on notice.
The blockbuster of course is getting Henrik Lundqvist back healthy.
