New York Rangers know a win against Vegas a big deal for Gerard Gallant
New York Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant is facing the Vegas Golden Knights for the first time in his career. It’s also the last team he coached before joining the Blueshirts. Vegas fired him on January 15, 2020. A team he coached for their first 213 regular-season games in franchise history and led to the Stanley Cup Final in 2018.
“It’s just another one, trying to get two points,” Gallant downplayed the matchup today.”As coaches it’s part of our business. We get fired, we move on and coach somebody else.”
Gerard Gallant and Ryan Reaves want this win
While Gallant may have brushed off the significance of the game, Ryan Reaves did not.
“I’m sure he wants to win as much as me – maybe a little bit more,” Reaves acknowledged. “We all know this one’s important.”
“I think the way he left was,” Reaves paused to be mindful of his words about Gallant’s firing. “I’m sure it’ll be nice to stick it to them for sure. I’m not saying either of us left on bad terms but you definitely want to get that win.”
As for Reaves, he spoke glowingly of his time in Vegas but is looking forward to beating his old team.
“You don’t want them to get the best of you,” he said with a smile. “So I’ll be looking for heads.”
The Blueshirts acquired Reaves over the summer for a third round pick. Soon after, they extended the 34 year-old through 2022-23. The extension will be for the same AAV he will receiving this season at $1.75 million. Reavo, as he’s called by teammates has chipped in offensively with 6 assists in 25 games.
“I feel great,” Reaves expressed recently. “I feel at home here (in New York).”
