The New York Rangers went into Ottawa for a matinee to close out a four game road trip and were greeted with a Senators goal on their first shot. Alexandar Georgiev would settle down, but it was obvious out of the gate that this would be no easy match up for the Blueshirts.

Recap: Rangers 3 vs Senators 2

It took just 41 seconds, but the Senators welcomed the red-hot Blueshirts with a goal by Nick Paul thanks to a great pass by Tim Stutzle. Ottawa took it to the Rangers early getting off several more shots that Alexandar Georgiev hunkered down and turned aside.

Five minutes later the Rangers started to come to life with Matt Murray stopping Filip Chytil and Sammy Blais point blank for his first two saves of the game. Ryan Reaves drew a tripping call 6:44 into the first. New York did a nice job of passing it around, but the results was the same – no goals.

The game started to get a little rough with Brady Tkachuk squaring off with Jacob Trouba 11:55 in. The Blueshirts would kill off two penalties and the period came to an end with the Sens up 1-0.

New York got an early opportunity on for their anemic power play just 2 minutes in. Needless to say, they did not score which is becoming a tiresome narrative in this young season. However, the real story of the game for the Blueshirts was the big stops by Georgiev keeping his sputtering team in it.

K’Andre Miller took a holding call with 46 seconds left in the period when he took down Stutzle. Oddly, the Rangers got their best scoring chance of the game when Zibanejad found Trouba shorthanded that caused Stutzle to take a penalty and even things up heading into the third.

Early in the period, Panarin, who has been a turnover machine this season coughed it up at the blue line. Josh Norris took a shot from the wall and Georgiev overplayed the puck as it went under his pad for a 2-0 lead. A huge hole now for the team.

Sammy Blais tried to spark the team with a fight 10:06 into the third with goal scorer Nick Paul. The Rangers came close to getting within one when Mika hit the side of the net all alone and then was stopped by Murray at the doorstep.

Murray’s shutout would end on of all things a power play goal. Zibanejad would find Panarin in the right circle who hit Kreider in front for a deflection. It was Kreider’s 350th point and knocked Murray out of the game with an injury.

The Rangers kept coming in waves, as Ryan Lindgren would tie the game on a slam dunk goal with at 15:52 beating a cold Anton Forsberg. It was his first goal of the season, assisted by Fox and Kreider.

Then 2:05 later, Barclay Goodrow gave the Rangers the 3-2 lead with a deflection of a Sammy Blais shot from the point. Trouba, who was a force picked up the other assist. Three goals in just over three minutes for a win.

A complete road trip sweep. A perfect 4-0!
