New York Rangers set with Keith Kinkaid as their third goalie
As part of the announcement of the new NHL season, all teams must carry three goalies. If a team does not carry three goalies on their 23 man roster, then it is mandatory to carry at least one on their taxi squad.

When the news broke about the new 2020-21 NHL season, I spoke with a well placed source if the Rangers would consider bringing in another goalie. At this time, the team is not looking to sign one. The team feels set in net.
The Rangers signed Keith Kinkaid in October to a two year deal. They did so to protect Alexandar Georgiev in the expansion draft. It looks like they got more than what they bargained for.
It is unlikely that the Rangers would hurt the development of young prospects Adam Huska and Tyler Wall by simply sitting on a taxi squad. That’s why Keith Kinkaid is in a great spot to remain in New York this season.
What do the Rangers have in Keith Kinkaid
Keith Kinkaid is a big goalie at 6-3. He’s from Farmingville, NY and split time in the AHL with the Laval Rocket and NHL with the Montreal Canadiens last season.
The Rangers signed an experienced goalie in the 31 year-old Kinkaid. In 157 career NHL games with New Jersey and Montreal, he posted a 65-56-20 record, along with a 2.95 GAA, a .905 SV%.
Kinkaid played his best during the 2018-19 season and helped the Devils make the playoffs during the 2017-18 season. That year Kinkaid notched 26 wins with a 2.77 GAA and a .913 SV%.
Things seem to find a way to work out, and that’s what happened for Kinkaid and Jeff Gorton. His two-year deal at $875,000 is perfect for the Rangers current cap situation.
