NHL drops ball with Tom Wilson, Rangers should call up Mason Geertsen

Calling Mason Geertsen. Calling Mason Geertsen.

The NHL failed to protect another Ranger from Tom Wilson’s goon tactics by issuing what amounts to a small parking ticket for sucker punching Pavel Buchnevich. They also felt that grabbing Artemi Panarin by the hair and nearly cracking his skull open on the ice was not a big deal.

By only fining him $5000, he will be able to play against the Rangers tomorrow night at the Garden. That means the Blueshirts must take matters of justice (or at least protection) into their own hands. With two call-ups remaining, they need to use one on heavyweight Mason Geertsen.

Mason Geertsen is 6-4 and 221 pounds. He is considered one of the AHL’s best heavyweights and will certainly keep Tom Wilson honest. The defenseman, who could also dress as a forward has 5 fights in this AHL shortened season and 9 the season prior.

Watch the video to see how he can handle himself.

Bottom line, the NHL did nothing to ensure the Rangers players would be safe tomorrow night. It’s time to take matters into their own hands. And if tomorrow’s game turns into the slapstick comedy Slap Shot, the NHL will only have itself to blame.
